p-Block Elements-II - Formula Sheet
Key Chemical Formulas and Processes
- Ozone Formation: \(3O_2 \xrightarrow{electric \, discharge} 2O_3\) (Energy must be supplied for this endothermic reaction).
- Contact Process (Sulfuric Acid):
- \(2SO_2 + O_2 \rightleftharpoons 2SO_3\) (using \(V_2O_5\) catalyst).
- \(SO_3 + H_2SO_4 \rightarrow H_2S_2O_7\) (Oleum).
- \(H_2S_2O_7 + H_2O \rightarrow 2H_2SO_4\).
- Interhalogen Types: \(XX'_n\) where \(n = 1, 3, 5, 7\) and \(X\) is less electronegative than \(X'\).
- Xenon Fluorides:
- \(Xe + F_2 \rightarrow XeF_2\) (Excess Xe).
- \(Xe + 2F_2 \rightarrow XeF_4\) (\(1:5\) ratio).
- \(Xe + 3F_2 \rightarrow XeF_6\) (\(1:20\) ratio).
- Oxoacids of Sulfur:
- Sulfurous acid: \(H_2SO_3\).
- Sulfuric acid: \(H_2SO_4\).
- Peroxomonosulphuric acid (Caro's acid): \(H_2SO_5\).
- Peroxodisulphuric acid (Marshall's acid): \(H_2S_2O_8\).
